Three Network Users Face Call Disruptions While Data Services Remain Unaffected

The mobile operator Three has acknowledged that some of its customers are currently unable to make phone calls due to a technical issue.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the company confirmed it is dealing with “an issue affecting voice services.” However, it did not specify how many of its 11 million users are impacted.

Outage tracking platform DownDetector recorded a sharp rise in problem reports at approximately 09:30 BST on Wednesday, with more than 9,000 complaints submitted.

Despite the voice service disruption, Three has assured customers that data services, including 4G and 5G, are functioning as expected.

This development comes shortly after Three finalized a merger with Vodafone, forming the UK’s largest mobile network with a combined customer base of around 27 million. Vodafone’s services are reportedly unaffected by this issue.

Impact on Partner Networks

Third-party mobile providers that rely on Three’s infrastructure are also experiencing disruptions. ID Mobile updated its service status page, stating: “Our technical teams are collaborating with Three UK to resolve this issue, and we aim to restore full service as soon as possible.”

Similarly, Smarty has acknowledged the problem, noting it is working on a solution for affected users.

Customer Concerns

Several users took to social media to express their frustrations, sharing stories about being unable to return important calls, including those to hospitals or breakdown services. Some individuals also reported losing access to data services, though Three maintains that its data network is operating normally.

This isn’t the first instance of service disruption for Three. In January, the company launched an investigation after a limited number of customers reported being unable to call 999 during a previous outage.

The situation is being monitored, and technical teams are working to resolve the issue promptly.
